The Nelson County Sheriff’s Department is a full time agency serving all of Nelson County Kentucky. The department employs 24 Sheriff Deputies, 4 Court Security Officers and 6 civilian employees. Click on an employees picture to send him or her an email.

Command Staff:
Currently the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department is headed by Sheriff Stephen Campbell, Chief Deputy Keith Greene and Captain Madge Brumley. Together they are responsible for the day to day operations of the Sheriff’s Department, court security, management of personnel, developing and implementing policy and procedures, retention and chain of custody of all evidence, maintenance and control of all property and scheduling professional development for sworn employees.

Patrol:
The Sheriff’s Department employs ten full time Patrol Deputies and two patrol sergeants. Patrol Deputies respond to calls for service, accident investigations, domestic violence and crisis intervention, mental illness, crime investigations and traffic control. All sworn personnel must take at a minimum 40 hours of professional development per year. In addition, Sheriff Deputies are responsible for the service of civil and criminal process, including subpoenas, summons and warrants.
Investigations:
The department employs three full time investigators. Two detectives are assigned to general investigations which includes homicides, rapes, serious assaults, child abuse, child sexual assault, major thefts and frauds, etc. One detective is assigned to the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force and investigates the sell, distribution, manufacture, cultivation and possession of controlled substances.

K-9:
Deputy Jerry Hardin, along with Raider and Lucy, conduct the departments K-9 operations. Raider is a four your old black lab who is trained in narcotics detection. Able to detect cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana and several other narcotics, Deputy Hardin and Raider conduct narcotics interdiction, search warrant service and random vehicle and locker checks at area schools. Lucy is a three year old blood hound who is trained to track. Deputy Hardin has used Lucy to track fugitives, Alzheimer’s patients and lost children to name a few.

School Resource Officer:
Court Security:
Court security personnel ensure the safety of our court system. All citizens entering the court house must pass through a metal detector and screening process. The entire facility is under video surveillance and the rear of the building is gated with a security personnel monitoring entry and exit at all times.
